A short river cruise before heading out to sea for a 45-minute boat ride to the local island. Here you can swim, snorkel, enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach and just relax. Want to do a spot of fishing on the way home? No problem, we can do that too. We’ll customise our day and itinerary to suit your wishes and maximise experience, pending the day and prevailing weather conditions. Best of all, your guide will share interesting stories on the European history and geography of the local area.
The Bloomfield Escape island and reef tour lets you experience the adventure of heading out with a small group of people, exploring the natural paradise of the Great Barrier Reef and our local island. Our vessel, the Escape II, is a 9m Extended Cab Kevlacat that is both comfortable and spacious. It has side opening cockpit doors which provide easy access to the water. There is a maximum of 8 guests on the tour (minimum numbers apply) and a whole lot of time to really explore and enjoy your surrounds. All snorkelling and fishing gear is provided and included, as well as water and juice. You are welcome to self-cater for lunch and snacks, which can be eaten on our local island. Walk around the island and swim straight off the beach, this place is a haven for nature lovers.
The island is actually a sand cay and an important seabird nesting site within the northern reaches of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. In fact, over 20 species of seabirds and woodland birds have been recorded here including the vulnerable beach stone-curlew, pied imperial-pigeon, superb fruit-dove and the Australian pelican. There is a shaded picnic table and toilet facilities, for your comfort and convenience. You’re welcome to snorkel the island’s fringing reefs, or we can take you to other isolated reef systems where there’s abundant coral gardens home to an array of fish species. Look for butterflyfish and angelfish, coral trout, giant clams, sea stars and schools of many colourful fish darting in and around the corals. The reef rises to within a few metres of the surface, making this ideal for snorkelers who can drift over it and enjoy seeing the diversity and colour of the Great Barrier Reef. Departure and return times are varied, as our travel is tide dependent. We usually depart around 7am and return around 4-4.30pm but check the timing with us when you book.
